Guidelines of Hackerlinks

If you did not read the About page, please do so first.

The most important rules to keep in mind are:

  • Please do not mention the source / website title in the submitted title. The domain will be shown behind each title.
  • Please do not make use of a promotional, attention grabbing writing style in titles. This includes, unnecessary capitalization of letters or words, use of "!" or other signs, signaling keywords like "Attention" and such.
  • When submitting urls to videos or PDF files, add [video] or [pdf] at the end of the title.
  • Please maintain one account only. Side accounts, for example to protect their own identity with good reason, are fine. Mass account creation is not acceptable.
  • Content, which does not apply to the general understanding of the guidelines, can be flagged by users. Use the "flag" option.
  • Contact moderators via below email address. Not via comments or submissions.

Rules for commenting & discussions

  • When you comment, be respectful and polite and stick to the topic.
  • Avoid comments, which do not provide anything related to the submission or discussion. Comments in the sense of "Did you read the XYZ?", "Typical XYZ", etc should be avoided.
  • Be approachable to other opinions, be curious. Ask before you judge.
  • Be critical, but when you criticize others' work, be as specific, factual and non-judgemental as possible.
  • No brigading, flamewars.
  • Political and ideological statements are in almost any case not welcome.
  • Comments, which do not apply to the general understanding of the guidelines, can be flagged by users. Use the "flag" option.
  • Again: Contact moderators via below email address. Not via comments or submissions.

What NOT to submit / comment

  • No sales promotions or sales / marketing content, no advertorials. If you'd like to present a new service / product, you have to provide specifics, information about the How / Why and relevant content. Discounts, special deals or alike are not relevant content.
  • No spam.
  • No clickbait, nor misleading titles.
  • No repeating submission of the same content. As far as possible, use the original source.
  • No bots or other auto-generated submissions.
  • No listicles.
  • And of course: No content showing / describing pornography, violence, abusive behavior, or promoting criminal / unethical behavior.

Violations result in immediate deletion / ban of submissions, comments, user accounts, or blacklisting of ip addresses, domains etc. Depending on what the respective content moderator sees as appropriate and necessary to maintain the guidelines.

If you are under the impression that someone is violating the rules or your submission got penalized wrongfully, feel free to contact us via email anytime at 828al2awr71.xd.

Special Submissions

To indicate special submissions in the form of discussions / text submissions, please consider to start the title with one of the following, if appropriate.

Show HL: Use this phrase, to indicate a text post where you are about to show something. For example, "Show HL: The thing I want to show the HL community"

Ask HL: Use this phrase, if you have a question towards the community and you are looking for answers in the discussions. For example, "Ask HL: What cyber security certifications would you recommend for entry level?"

Tell HL: Use this phrase, if you want to share something important or have an announcement to make, which is of relevance to the community. Use this carefully, as purely promotional content will be deleted. An example would be, "Tell HL: We concluded at ACME Int. our post-mortem, tonight we will answer questions"
